Lavender Falls. 48 x 36 inches.
Planning and patience went into the creation of Lavender Falls. Evening colors were chosen to create a magical scene where the last bit of light peaks beyond the trees. A special place in Northern Ontario, captured by a friend, where lavender flowers bloom and sing in the night.

My piece Lavender Falls is a one of a kind landscape painting of a hidden waterfall in Ontario. The color palette was chosen to create an evening sunset or "magic hour" that accentuates the glowing colors in the sky.
First, I hand painted a simple dark to light blue gradient in the sky. Next I used a pouring method of painting to add a dark to light gradient in the cloudy sky, leading the viewer towards the sunset beyond the tree line. The pouring method is used to achieve really amazing abstract patterns, swirls and bubbles, all across the canvas. The next layer is done by pouring the dark pine trees and adding yellows and lighter greens to the midground. All of the lighting coming from the sunset touches the rock faces and bushes which leaves the sunless parts nicely contrasted. The rocks and foreground were poured in four separate layers and upon closer inspection you can see the depth and texture coming out of the canvas. Last but not least the final lighting touch ups were made and I created the central waterfall in 6 shades of blue.
This piece is my favourite painting I have ever created and its weathered light grey frame will match any light or dark toned wall decor. This 3 x 4 foot piece will dominate any living space and dazzle guests.
I handmade this frame with a .75 inch spacing and stained my floating frame a weathered grey to create neutral pairing to the dark painting.
Lavender Falls is full of mood and will fill a space with life and motion! The poured sky's detail looks incredible close up and the greenery will thrive beside any potted plants or trees.
