Rocky Rapids Series- Two. 48 x 11 inches.

$700.00

Inspired by my trip to Alberta, I created a series of rocky rapids paintings. We walked over a bridge and the rush of water splashing against the rocks was mesmerising. Ice broke and collected in different cracks in the river to create an ever changing and powerful sight. I can still hear the sound of the water today from that very special winter day.

Title: Rocky Rapids- TWO

Canvas: Gallery stretched Cotton Canvas, varnished twice, signed and dated on the back.

Size and Weight: 48 inches width x 11 inches height x 2 inches depth. 4.15 Kg

Dominant Colors: Blue, Brown

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas, floetrol, gloss varnish, Provincial Minwax stained pine frame

Ready to Hang: Horizontal

I created a 5 piece series called "River Rapids" that have the exact same color palette, sizing and frame stain. These 5 paintings vary in their abstract rock and water designs and each are unique.

My piece River Rapids- TWO is a chaotic and lively aerial shot of Alberta inspired natural rock formations. A technique called fluid art was used to create hundreds of abstract details and bubbles around the thick multi-colored rocks. I poured the background in 5 shades of blue and light turquoise with green waves. I designed the rocks first so I could create a realistic rush of water and to create real movement across the piece. The rocks are made up acrylic and plaster that is layered three times, is extremely glossy and gives the overall feel of depth coming out of the stretched canvas. Finally I very carefully added in light white designs around the rocks to really add the rushing water aesthetic.

My technique of painting creates hundreds of abstract bubbles seen across the canvas. Silicon oil is added to the colors and floats to the top due to different densities of the paints. The side view and textured acrylics show the layered paints.
